The Peach
Playful, kind, and well-loved, you are The Peach.

For such a warm-hearted, generous person, you're surprisingly experienced in both love and sex. We credit your spontaneous side; you tend to live in the moment, and you don't get bogged down by inhibitions like most women your age. If you see something wonderful, you confidently embrace it.

Your exact opposite:
The Nymph

You are a fun flirt and an instant sweetheart, but our guess is you're becoming more selective about long-term love. It's getting tougher for you to become permanently attached; and a guy who's in a different place emotionally might misunderstand your early enthusiasm. You can wreck someone simply by enjoying him.

Your ideal mate is adventurous and giving, like you. But not overly intense.

I have to ask this

WTF is wrong with glasses? I've noticed a lot of conversations on Ask.MeFi lately on contacts and eye surgeries, and I'm starting to have the impression that everyone is wearing contacts these days. Glasses can be misplaced, sure, but so can contacts--and otherwise, glasses are a better way to make a personal style statement, and a lot healthier for the eyes than the contacts. Why are people so vain, and why are eyeglasses a subject of vanity in the first place?

Mad Jack

Am I the only girl who, as a teenager, went for the most explicit "romance" novels I could find? On the other hand, how is this different from letting teenagers read Penthouse Letters? Are they going to keep teenagers from buying "erotic novels" when "romance novels" are OK? I like the part in that second article about some woman's husband complaining to the author or publisher because her book was the filthiest thing he'd ever seen. (1) get out from the rock, dude. (2) no one forced her to read or buy it, maybe you should be dealing with her, and not the people who write that stuff. Some of us like our smut.

OK, so:
You scored as Eyes full of Pain. People tend to overlook you, which makes you feel less worthy of their attentions. You sometimes wish you could just disapear from the world around you. Well, of course atheism is a mainstream religion.

21st time's the charm

While some are deeply saddened by their need for ED medications at a younger age (than Bob Dole, I guess), the same drugs are becoming a major player as college-aged young men's street drugs. Spirit has had some moments of needing them while we got him stable on Androgel, and let me tell you, I understand why--this is a man who can drive me to the heights of ecstasy without ever touching me, just with his eyes and his voice, who is well-endowed naturally and knows how to use what he has like an artist knows how to use a brush, and the enhancement of the experience in terms of size and hardness was still worth me teasing him about feeding them to him recreationally.

I'm watching Defending Your Life on Encore Love Stories. Man, I hope this isn't the way the afterlife works. I've been guided by fear far too often--but then, with Spirit, I did the brave thing--whatever I tell anyone, I wouldn't have left my ex if I hadn't fallen in love with Spirit, because again, I would have been ruled by fear--but I took a leap of faith, and that's what courage is about, sometimes. No, I couldn't have had a happy and fulfilling life where I was--but I could've been secure.

Spirit, meditate before your BP readings. You might get to get off the Atenolol. I'm serious about the yoga.

An adult moment

Kids, stop reading now.

Part of me really wants to start a sex blog just so I can join the Sugasm. Reality is that, while the outlet would likely help me, I'm exhausted and in pain just from doing the groceries (and sick from eating, again--Honestly, I did have some caffeine--no one at the mall sold water bottles and I hate just ordering an ice cup--but I got a small combo meal at the new Chinese place, and shared it with the five-year-old who's been eating like a horse, and gave him half that drink as well. When won't it hurt to eat again? I took my Antivert and everything...). So, I don't have the creative energy to write the fantasies in my head. When Spirit comes home, he keeps my body too actively engaged in my fantasies for me to write about them. But seriously, I learn a lot reading the sugasm posts (aside from having my prurient interests engaged and imagination fired). (I'd never have thought about either nettles or ginger as sex toys before I started reading Sugasm faithfully--and I read a lot on BDSM and other adult subjects aside from the blogosphere).

Is cyberprostitution, prostitution? If so, we'd better be shutting down private peep shows and phone sex lines. It's somewhere between phone sex and interactive pornography (or maybe the nudie bar or peep show). Prostitution lets you touch someone, feel them. Even using teledildonics, it isn't the same thing.

Also, Sesame Gone Wild (NSFW, needs YT reg, Spirit, ICQ me and you can log on to my account, I made one to watch it) (lame but funny as hell)

Seriously. It's lame as hell but when you're kinda down and worried and the whole world is spinning around 'cause they don't know what's wrong with your head and you can see a specialist in only 3 months, YouTube some classic Sesame Street. You can't be sad and watch Sesame Street. If you didn't grow up on it, this may not apply to you. Note: "Classic" is not equal to "Elmo." Elmo's a NEW character. Elmo may cheer up some kids and mommies. Elmo will drive most grown men into a violent rage. Like Barney. Which is sad because I realized I really want the Elmopalooza DVD.

How You Are In Love

You fall in love quickly and easily. And very often.

You tend to take more than give in relationships.

You tend to get very attached when you're with someone. You want to see your love all the time.

You love your partner unconditionally and don't try to make them change.

You stay in love for a long time, even if you aren't loved back. When you fall, you fall hard.

The idea is safe, sane, and consensual. Removing body parts outside an operating room is at least not safe, and possibly not sane. (see also) (Note: Savage's comment on Dr. Phil really hit the mark for me) (Note also: I can understand, to a degree, the "born in the wrong body" issue. But there has to be a better way to resolve that than indulging that need in terms of a direct sexual fetish--and I'm all for indulging your fetishes--I'm just also for not mutilating and eating people, even if they want to be eaten and/or mutilated). Here's the crux of it:
"I make a promise this day to God to remain sexually pure until the day I give myself as a wedding gift to my husband. I know that God requires this of me, that he loves me, and that he will reward me for my faithfulness." And the daddies pledge to protect their little girls' honors.

This is amazing. By "religious" (esp. with the breakdown on the second map), they clearly mean the Abrahamic religions--someone in the post complains about native tribal religions "not counting"--but I'm still amazed that my own county is in the lowest category. I'm also surprised by how much of this country is primarily Catholic (could've pointed out the Baptist states to you, though, no problem). (I realized reading down that I shouldn't be--a lot of the Southwest are big, spacious states, taking up a lot of space and therefor color on the maps--and they have very high Latino populations, which tend Catholic). I really am floored, as people around here seem to take for granted that everyone either goes to church or should, yet less than 1/3 of people around here are members of church congregations? (In point of fact, I'm still a listed member of at least two church congregations--one Presbyterian, one Salvationist--but haven't attended either in the better part of a decade, and am pretty firmly Pagan these days).

Hmmm
...

This looks cute. I'd still like to see Akeelah and the Bee, too. Not sure who the non-spelling-geek audience is on that one, but then, ESPN2 always draws viewers on the National Bee, so maybe. (Gripe: I only got shown in the background on ESPN2. And the girl who won my year was a spoiled, self-absorbed little thing. I think she won the Jeopardy! teen tourney a couple years later).

Remember ladies, the guy who's nice to you, but not to your server, is not nice.

thoughts on this: 1. And by ending the auction, eBay probably gave this wider exposure and guaranteed a good sale. 2. "Found guilty but criminallly insane... died in a mental hospital." This needs to happen more. Not guilty by reason of insanity is dead wrong. If you're insane enough to kill someone they need to be able to put your ass in a hospital for a minimum sentence.

Life without this stuff--day, ummm, must be 5 now--still sucks. I'm trying to revamp my healthiness wholeheartedly, sticking to only whole grains, no refined sugars or starches. Slight exception for refined sugars and caffeine for very small amounts of chocolate--mostly I really still crave diet cola and I still really want a daily cigarette or two no matter how long I go without. Pray for me--my pain levels are through the roof and I'm dragging--usually I only have one or the other, maybe because the pain keeps me awake, but apparently, without caffeine, it doesn't. Still, the anti-caffeine crowd insists that giving it up is one of the biggest health/sleep differences you can make for yourself, so I'm trying. Hard. Next winter when I'm wolfing bagels and mocha lattes to keep warm and fat in a Northern winter, don't remind me of this.

This makes me regret my experiment in giving up caffeine (except small amounts of chocolate). No caffeine and no nicotine makes Cricket an edgy, bitchy little girl...

Well, I guess Chuck thinks the whole thing is pretty funny.

I'm a little late posting this but I've got a lot of respect. Actually, the first time I donated my hair to Locks of Love, I wanted to go totally bald, but got talked out of it, so both times I've gotten an attractive if shorter cut. If I could raise money for a good cause, though, I'd still do it. I'd look butch as hell, though--I looked pretty butch in a recent picture and I have enough hair to cover my breasts now.

This is ridiculous--why's NYC being so Puritan lately?

Homestar Runner

This does have an up-side--I've seen only a handful of HSR cartoons, and on one of the 3 days off I had to take next week, I'll have something to do here. I mean how can you not laugh at this stuff? You know, unless you're in pain and sort of down in general and too tired to laugh so you're laughing on the inside and don't even realize how grouchy you appear on the outside until someone asks how you can not be laughing... oh... wait. Seriously, though, the Strongbad emails are the best ones, IMO.

These were the best ads ever. The "Church" one was the first I saw--spirit and I just stared at each other in amazement for probably a full 30 seconds before bursting out laughing. *Yeah, April Fool's. Cute, non?
Wow

I have a couple days off, except for a few hours Sunday morning. Nice, right?

Oh, if you've ever wondered how hard it'd be to get laid through an adult online service, read this--the answer that's an email sent to/through the ask-er is awesome.

cool

This is a nice read (very science-heavy) but I can't help but think that causality and the violation thereof is so much relativistic bullshit; "the light exits the medium before it enters it" being true from the lab frame doesn't make it absolutely true. However, if you can violate causality with light this way, bear with me, now, does that make it (theoretically and potentially, not mechanically) possible to construct a light-speed journey so that, not only does it not create the oft-posited effect by which our traveller would return from a short-to-him relativistic journey to find himself in the far future of his home, but make it possible that the longer the journey, the earlier he returns--in effect, making FTL speed a means of *backward* time travel?

(Note: I know better, but the thought experiment is fun)

I've linked to some Zen koans before, but for a different understanding of Zen, hit Zombocom or Superbad. This one gave me pause.

Oh, get over it. If they left the kid alone, the disruption/distraction would be over within 2 days.

Argh

Kindergarten student expelled for ten days for bringing unloaded gun to school
1. Clearly he was thinking of it as a toy, show-and-tell, what-have-you. The punishment is extreme--the child was not threatening, nor was the mere presence of a gun. The magic number is FIVE. Duh.
2. Parents should've been paying more attention or had the gun locked up as well as the ammo. No matter how careful, it only takes one bullet being accidentally left in there for tragedy to happen.

This is seriously awesome

But not this awesome. This is a different level.

Something for the kids

(more cute fuzzies)
Wow.

OK, I took something to let me sleep tonight, the house feels so empty right now, but I can feel it, and must go to bed whilst I may still walk there.

Kink vs. feminism? Key quote: "When feminists stop standing up for the choices women make, I stop recognizing them as feminists, it's that simple."
M'love and I were taking fenugreek to smell nice and mapley, but it requires maintenance, so when he left, I went back off, at least for a while. Anyway, this looks like an easier way to smell better from the inside out. Here's where you can buy the rose online, but Spirit may need to try to find the vanilla from Korea.

On beards--Spirit says the military guys have to shave because several would just sport 5 O'Clock shadow all the time if they didn't, but I still think it's silly and panders to fashion over common sense, which isn't what the uniform should be about. Have also heard that it decreases uniformity in the uniforms, makes more difference and makes it easier to pick out a target in a sea of camouflage. This makes more sense to me, but I just want them to let my man grow some manly facial hair 'cause we both like that sort of thing. (Wiki link contains more on the military's justifications). I Googled "History of Beards," because I'm sure fashion if not the laws and uniform codes have required them at various times, and those times seem to have been glossed over in the DI piece, and found an interesting article on the history of bearded babies.

hehehehe

This is awesome if you're in a weird quiet mood. I'm hurting bad today--it feels like a migraine-cum-sinus headache (one more reason I hate people using "cum" in a sexual sense and prefer "come" is the previous usage, so stop giggling). Honestly, it's probably slightly both, more the broken night's sleep combined with Spirit likely hurting from the lack of sleep and projecting it over the miles back to me.

I've known some couples who could've used this in their separations

wow.

This Ask.MeFi post was interesting. I've felt major differences by condom type. I prefer without if I feel good about my partner, but certain textures have been an enhancement. ...More on Spirit's PA later.

This makes me wish I were anywhere but here. I'm gritting my teeth and keeping this from spilling over--most of it's the stress of him going again, and I have to grit my teeth and bear handling everything for a while again, but showing it will just make the going harder, and it cannot be helped. But there is nothing beautiful or good here.

Ahahahaha

I agree on vaginal plastic surgery being useless, but I really link this for the photo collage
Here's my take on this: As long as my personal mores don't inflict on your rights to life, liberty, property, the pursuit of happiness, and all that good stuff, my morality is my own business, whether I keep my beliefs and morals in my own home or put 'em out here or on MySpace for the world to see. It's not your, the website's, or the governm ent's job to believe that (though if my personal mores violate a website's stated beliefs, I don't disagree that they have the right to take it down--me printing graphic defenses of alternative sexual practice on an SBC church's website would be indefensible)

OW OW OW no friggin' WAY--Spirit and I got some piercings this weekend, bringing him to 3 and me to 10, but 1016 at once? Even if I understand that, that would put my body into some sort of shock mode for weeks. Please tell me the guy has some recovery time planned.

He's leaving again tomorrow, so this made me cry (rest of site NSFW)

The rest of my readings today have been very NSFW--I have a list of feeds I read off sugasm and blogs that those blogs link to. This ends up meaning that I've often read several of the Sugasm articles each week, but there's always something worth a read there.

Why our screwed-up day-night cycles might be making us sick

I'm surprised that this phenomenon is as rare as all that; I read an article semi-recently stating that many performers were "nuts" and unprofessional, and one example was of a prominent singer being difficult for technicians to work with because she'd say things like the sound needed to be more "purple." While I see why this isn't entirely professional and should be translated for the more technical (or she should have her own sound crew who knows what those nuances mean to her), neither is it New Age or psychotic--I know many people who have this, though, including myself. Sounds have shapes and colors in my head, and smells have aspects of every other sense.

Traits of the passive-aggressive male

From Ask Mefi:
*FEAR OF DEPENDENCY - Unsure of his autonomy & afraid of being alone, he fights his dependency needs - usually by trying to control you.

*FEAR OF INTIMACY - Guarded & often mistrusful, he is reluctant to show his emotional fragility. He's often out of touch with his feelings, reflexively denying feelings he thinks will "trap" or reveal him, like love. He picks fights to create distance.

*FEAR OF COMPETITION - Feeling inadequate, he is unable to compete with other men in work and love. He may operate either as a self-sabotaging wimp with a pattern of failure, or he'll be the tyrant, setting himself up as unassailable and perfect, needing to eliminate any threat to his power.

*OBSTRUCTIONISM - Just tell a p/a man what you want, no matter how small, and he may promise to get it for you. But he won't say when, and he"ll do it deliberately slowly just to frustrate you. Maybe he won't comply at all. He blocks any real progress he sees to your getting your way.

*FOSTERING CHAOS - The p/a man prefers to leave the puzzle incomplete, the job undone.

*FEELING VICTIMIZED - The p/a man protests that others unfairly accuse him rather than owning up to his own misdeeds. To remain above reporach, he sets himself up as the apparently hapless, innocent victim of your excessive demands and tirades.

*MAKING EXCUSES & LYING - The p/a man reaches as far as he can to fabricate excuses for not fulfilling promises. As a way of withholding information, affirmation or love - to have power over you - the p/a man may choose to make up a story rather than give you a straight answer.

*PROCRASTINATION - The p/a man has an odd sense of time - he believes that deadlines don't exist for him.

*CHRONIC LATENESS & FORGETFULNESS - One of the most infuriating & inconsiderate of all p/a traits is his inability to arrive on time. By keeping you waiting, he sets the ground rules of the relationship. And his selective forgetting - used only when he wants to avoid an obligation.

*AMBIGUITY - He is master of mixed messages and sitting on fences. When he tells you something, you may still walk away wondering if he actually said yes or no.

*SULKING - Feeling put upon when he is unable to live up to his promises or obligations, the p/a man retreats from pressures around him and sulks, pouts and withdraws.

Exactly. Key point for fundies:
To withhold a medicine like this because you think teens will [fail to] postpone sex if they know they're immune to HPV is appalling. First of all, they won't. Second of all, what if a girl remains virgin 'til her wedding night but her husband was wild and though he's now found Jesus and reformed, he has HPV ... does she "deserve" to contract it as well because some blithering idiots completely out of touch with sexuality, teenagers and the modern world have a religious objection to a vaccine? You don't want your daughter protected from HPV, fine, no one *requires* you to innoculate her.

Why are we leaning more and more away from freedom of personal choice and toward policing the vices of others again? What happened to the days when the Republicans were the party of "a government small enough to drown in the bathtub," of personal freedom of choice and personal responsibility? Now Republicans are in power and still, both parties want to keep the people under control, and new restaurants can't open without their liquor licenses.

One more:

The Multidimensional Scale of Sexuality

According to my answers, it is likely that I identify as
Heterosexual with some homosexuality
or equally,
Sequential bisexual.

Complete set of results

Heterosexual with some homosexuality:
4
Sequential bisexual:
4
Concurrent bisexual:
3
Homosexual:
1
Asexual:
0
Heterosexual:
0
Homosexual with some heterosexuality:
0
Past heterosexual, currently homosexual:
0
Past homosexual, currently heterosexual:
0

Information

The Multidimensional Scale of Sexuality was devised by Larry Kurdek, B. Berkey and T. Perelman-Hall. It is an extension of the Klein Sexual Orientation Grid, recognising that sexual identities can change over time, people can identify with more than one sexual identity, and that asexuality is a valid sexual identity. The Multidimensional Scale of Sexuality was published in the "Journal of Homosexuality" in 1990.

Take the quiz

Klein Sexual Orientation Grid

I scored an average of 1.86

01 2 3 4 5 6
HeterosexualBisexualHomosexual

Meaning

This result can also be related to the Kinsey Scale:

0 = exclusively heterosexual
1 = predominantly heterosexual, incidentally homosexual
2 = predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual
3 = equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 = predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally heterosexual
5 = predominantly homosexual, incidentally heterosexual
6 = exclusively homosexual

Summary

The idea of this excercise is to understand exactly how dynamic a person's sexual orientation can be, as well as how fluid it can be over a person's lifespan. While a person's number of actual homo/heterosexual encounters may be easy to categorize, their actual orientation may be completely different. Simple labels like "homosexual", "heterosexual", and "bisexual" need not be the only three options available to us.

The Five Love Languages

My primary love language is probably
Physical Touch
with a secondary love language being
Quality Time.

Complete set of results

Physical Touch:

Quality Time:
7
Words of Affirmation:
7
Acts of Service:
2
Receiving Gifts:

Information

Unhappiness in relationships, according to Dr. Gary Chapman, is often due to the fact that we speak different love languages. Sometimes we don't understand our partner's requirements, or even our own. We all have a "love tank" that needs to be filled in order for us to express love to others, but there are different means by which our tank can be filled, and there are different ways that we can express love to others.

Mistakes a person doesn't make twice

Well, another personal moment, here--Spirit's most-likely sitting sleepy and headachy in Tokyo waiting for his flight... I had barely time to make my flights when I travelled to and from RoK, but he's got 7-8 hour layovers at every step. So I'm watching Hidalgo and wondering if I will be able to sleep.

Also, I bought a RAZRv3 today. If anyone knows how to get the PhoneTools to actually transfer images/ringtones to and from the phone, drop me a comment.
